Hair systems · Atlanta, GA

Hair system in Atlanta, built around your head.

A hair system is a non-surgical unit that replaces the hair you have lost. The base you choose, and how well the hair is matched, decide how natural it looks. We help you choose both.

Lace, skin or hybrid: which base

The base is the foundation the hair is tied to, and it is the first decision you make. Every base has strengths and trade-offs, so the right one depends on your hair loss, your skin, your routine and your budget. Hair units cost $250 to $750 across all three, depending on the base, hair length, texture and quality.

A useful way to choose is to ask what matters most to you. If it is the softest possible hairline, lean toward lace. If it is toughness and easy cleaning, lean toward skin. If you want both, hybrid is the usual answer. Whichever you pick, the fit and the cut-in still decide how real it looks.

  • Lace. Light, breathable and very natural at the front. It disappears against the skin, which makes it a strong choice for a soft hairline. Lace is more delicate, so it asks for gentler handling.
  • Skin (poly). A thin, tough base that looks like scalp and is easy to clean. It holds up well to sweat and daily wear, and many men like it for a clean front edge or a full crown. It breathes less than lace.
  • Hybrid. Lace at the front for a natural hairline and skin through the back and top for strength. It gives you the soft front of lace and the durability of poly.

Matching colour, density and texture

This is where most units succeed or fail. A man weave only looks fake when the fit is wrong, and the fit is mostly about the match.

Colour. We match the unit to the hair you have now, including any grey. If your hair is not one flat shade, the unit should not be either.

Density. More hair is not better hair. A unit that is thicker than the hair around it gives itself away. We match density to your age, your remaining hair and the look you want. A thinner front with more weight behind it usually looks the most real.

Texture. Straight, wavy, curly or coily, the unit is chosen to match your own hair so the blend at the sides and back is invisible. If texture is your main concern, see our page on hair units for Black men.

Stock or custom

Some units are in stock and others are custom ordered. A stock unit is faster, and a custom unit is built to your measurements, colour, density and texture. This is also why most men go from first conversation to fitting day in two to three weeks. The timing depends on which route fits your head and your hair.

If you have an unusual head shape, a very specific hairline or a texture that is hard to find off the shelf, custom is usually worth it. If you want to get started quickly with a standard fit, a well-chosen stock unit can work well. We will tell you which we think suits you, and why.

Bring your own unit

Already have a hair system? Bring it. We will prep, cut and install it with the same care as a custom unit. We look at the base, the density and the fit first, and we tell you honestly if it will work for you.

A unit from elsewhere often needs to be cut, customised and blended before it looks right. The cut-in is where a lot of the realism comes from, and it is done in the chair, to your head. Our installation page walks through the full fitting.

Choosing with confidence

You do not need to know the jargon before you book. Come to the consultation and tell us what you are trying to change. We will talk through your hair loss, what you want it to look like and which base and hair type suit you, and you will get clear pricing.

Bring photos of looks you like, and photos of looks you do not. Mention your work, your training and anything about your skin that matters. These details decide whether lace, skin or hybrid is the better call. Then your unit is matched to your colour, density and texture, and ordered or prepared for your fitting.

There is no pressure to decide on the day. We would rather you leave with the right answer than a quick one. Once you have chosen, the unit is attached, cut into your hair and styled in a single fitting, and you leave the same day with the finished look.

Making it last

Most units last 3 to 6 months, depending on the base and how well you maintain it. Lace tends to be the most delicate and poly the most hardwearing, and a hybrid sits between the two. Maintenance every 2 to 4 weeks keeps the unit secure and natural. Details are on our hair unit maintenance page.

The better the match and the care, the better your unit looks at month four as well as day one.

FAQ

Hair systems questions, answered.

Which base looks the most natural?

Lace is often the softest at the hairline, but a well-fitted skin or hybrid base can look just as natural. The match and the cut matter as much as the base.

What is the difference between a hair system and a toupee?

A modern hair system is a thin, custom-matched base with hair that is cut into your own, rather than a loose piece that sits on top. The fit and cut-in make the difference.

Can you match grey hair?

Yes. Colour is matched to the hair you have now, including grey or mixed shades.

Can I choose how thick the hair is?

Yes. Density is chosen at your consultation. We usually recommend a natural density that suits your age and your remaining hair.

Is a hair system the same as a man weave?

They are two names for the same thing. A man weave is a non-surgical hair unit, also called a hair system.

Can I swap bases later?

Yes. When your unit is due for replacing, we can switch to a different base if another suits you better.
